Introduction

The voluptuous curve of The Egg was one of the attracting factors that allowed the group to unanimously agree to work on it. We were also interested in the challenge of working with the curvaceous form being extended along the Z-axis rather than the X,Y-axis.
Through this workshop, we’ve learnt to understand that structure, form and function work together. As a group, we’ve explored the types of possible construction joints that we could have used. It made us aware about the existing restrictions such as material size, and understanding the importance of saving materials by nesting the objects for cutting.
Through the process, we’ve realized some problems such as choice of material (cardboard) being unsuitable for the structure due to its lightweight and flimsiness. (With understanding that the curve requires to support itself since it extend along the Z-axis) Another was the choice of joint that we had used.
